This is terrible. Our economy certainly isn't helping. My dad lost his job while I was in high school to outsourcing, so I saw first-handed how it affects people. Luckily, he had his own business on the side so he just picked it up full time. Outsourcing has been going on for a while in U.S. now. Hopefully this trend ends soon!

Possible American Airlines Strike

Our textbook covers unions and strikes in one of it's chapters. I came across an article about a possible strike by American Airlines flight attendents...

I really don't think this is a very good idea. Given today's economy these flight attendents are lucky they still have jobs. Plus, with the holidays approaching they could make some good money because of all the heavy travelling that will be occurring.

Case Studies from the Textbook

Our book features quite a few case studies at the end of each chapter. I wish we discussed them more in class actually. The most interesting case study in the book in my opinion is "Hot Coffee at McDonalds." Most people have heard about this incident without reading our book. Although McD's served their coffee hotter than usual most people bought coffee there because it was so hot. Let's be serious, most people don't drink all of their coffee right away, so who wants lukewarm coffee after a half hour? I can not believe the woman who spilt the coffee on herself was rewarded for her own stupidity. If you are handling a hot beverage you should be careful -- common sense!

Declining Day Care

Day care being offered at work is very rare (a Chapter 7 topic), and with today's economic conditions a lot of paretns are taking their kids out of the day care simply because they can not afford it.

PETA Going After Britney

Since the treatment of animals comes up in our book during Chapter 11, I found this article interesting. I think PETA is getting rediculous and going after every celebrity they possibly can just to get their name in headlines these days. So what, Britney had some elephants and tigers in her new music video, big deal. It isn't like she is the one whipping them and training them.

My thoughts -- good for her. She did the right thing (I mean she IS an auditor) and it is absurd that she lost her job because she reported the facts. I hope the court does the right thing and gives her job back, because in my opinion she definitely deserves it!
